Nextreme Thermal Solutions Receives Nano 50 Award

Embedded Thermoelectric Cooler Technology Recognized as Innovative

Research Triangle Park, NC (August 22, 2006) - Nextreme Thermal Solutions, a pioneer in embedded thermoelectric components, today announced that it has been named a winner in the second annual Nano 50(TM) Awards from Nanotech Briefs magazine. The Nano 50 Awards recognize the top 50 technologies, products, and innovators that have significantly impacted, or are expected to impact, the state of the art in nanotechnology.

The Nano 50 Award will be presented to Nextreme representatives at a special reception and awards dinner during NASA Tech Briefs National Nano Engineering Conference at the Boston Marriott Newton, November 9-10. Visit www.techbriefs.com/nano for more information about the conference.

"The winners of the Nano 50 awards are the best of the best - the innovative people and technologies that will continue to move nanotechnology to key mainstream markets," said Linda L. Bell, publisher of Nanotech Briefs.

"It will be an honor to receive this prestigious industry award on behalf of all the hardworking employees of Nextreme," said Jesko von Windheim, CEO of Nextreme. "This award from Nanotech Briefs is tangible evidence of the significant progress we've made in developing commercially viable thermoelectric components using nanotechnology."

Nextreme is commercializing embedded thermoelectric coolers based on a nano-engineered thin film of bismuth telluride. These miniature Peltier devices cool hot spots on semiconductor chips to improve their performance, reliability and yield. Samples are available now for customer evaluation.

About Nextreme Thermal Solutions
Nextreme Thermal Solutions manufactures embedded thermoelectric coolers to reduce the temperature of semiconductor hot spots, increasing the performance, reliability and yield of highperformance CMOS ICs. These high-performance solid-state devices operate as miniature heat pumps, efficiently providing localized cooling for electronic applications. Fabricated with a nanoengineered thin film using semiconductor processing techniques, these Peltier coolers are very small and thin for unobtrusive integration close to the IC's die on a heat spreader, heat pipe or heat sink. Other applications include converting heat into electricity for advanced power generation applications. Nextreme is a spin-out of RTI International (www.rti.org) and is located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. For more information, please visit www.Nextreme.com.
